Since 1967, Brunei and Singapore have maintained a currency interchangeability agreement. This means that the Brunei Dollar and the Singapore Dollar are accepted interchangeably in both countries at par value, making it unique in terms of cross-border currency use.
The first BND coins were issued in 1969, and banknotes featuring the Sultan of Brunei were first introduced in 1967. These notes have evolved in design over the years, incorporating new security features and modern designs, but they have consistently featured the Sultan as a central figure.
